APA 25 Years of Securing Australia’s Energy Future For 25 years, APA has been at the heart of Australia’s energy story—connecting communities, powering industries, and securing the nation’s energy future. Our history as APA started in June 2000 when we were listed on the ASX. But our journey began long before then. APA was once part of AGL—Australia’s second-oldest company—whose assets laid the foundation for our future. On 13 June 2000, AGL decided to demerge its gas transmission assets and APA was created and listed on the ASX. As a new energy infrastructure company, with six employees, working out of a small Syndey office and managing 7,000 kilometres of gas pipelines, APA was ready to chart its own course. From day one, our ambition was clear: run and grow the business—starting with gas pipelines, then over time expanding into other parts of the energy sector. Today, we’re Australia’s largest gas pipeline operator, with over 15,000 kilometers of pipelines. We have also diversified our portfolio of assets, expanding into power generation, renewables, firming and electricity transmission. Our East and West Coast Gas Grids form the backbone of Australia’s energy system—ensuring reliable, secure energy on both sides of the nation. As Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, we’ve grown with our people, customers, and communities—working together to deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.
