Recent compositions written and performed by Katrina Penman. Recorded in January 2026. "Breaking and Mending" was written by Katrina Penman in 2025 for Turkish flutist Lelya Bayramogullari, who performed its premier at the World Flutes Festival in Mendoza, Argentina in September 2025. The initial "breaking" section represents a shattered soul, plunged into despair and anxiety. From 04.28, the "mending" begins, in which the person find reconciliation with themself and is able to look forward, towards the light. The piece is inspired by the following quote from the poet, Mevlana Rumi: "The wound is where the light enters". Penman also explores this material in her composition "Kintsugi" for soprano and piano (premiered in October 2025), which can be listened to here:    • KINTSUGI - Premier. FESTIVAL COMA, Madrid   08.07 "Etude Pastorale" was premiered by the composer at the same festival. This piece was developed from a solo bassoon piece originally written for the Spanish double-reed society AFOES. It begins with a pastorale theme inspired by celtic legends and is followed by a series of technically demanding variations exploring different musical styles.
