In this video, we present a straightforward workflow for point cloud-based quality control using FARO CAM2 metrology software. The process demonstrates how to compare a point cloud, captured with the FARO Leap ST handheld 3D laser scanner, against a product's CAD model. We begin by performing an initial alignment of the CAD model and the point cloud using the "Best Fit Point Cloud" command, then refine this alignment with the help of geometric features (e.g., circles, slots) extracted from the point cloud. Following the alignment, the software instantly generates a color map to visualize deviations between the point cloud points and the nominal 3D surface. Points within tolerance are shown in green, while those exceeding the upper tolerance limit are displayed in red, and those below the lower limit appear in blue. We also show how to create and export a PDF report of the results using predefined templates, providing a comprehensive record of the quality control check.
