Liu Hailong is a Chinese Sanshou fighter and the modern day Huo Yuan Jia defeating many foreign fighters. Sanshou or Sanda is a Chinese hand to hand combat, self-defense system, and combat sport. Not seen as a style itself, but is rather considered as just one of the two components (taolu and sanshou) of Chinese martial arts (Kung fu) training and is often taught along side with taolu training. It may simply be seen as the practice of martial applications in a realistic environment or simply free fighting. The Sanda or Sanshou, essence of combat in Kung fu is being popularized and attracting the attention of practitioners of combat sports throughout the world, because of a regulation which is located midway between the Vale-Tudo and Kick Boxing or Muay Thai, adding projections and grabbing. Liu's rise to fame came in 2000 in the inaugural King of Sanda tournament. Liu not only won his weight class, but went on to win a grueling one-night open weight round robin tournament against much bigger fighters as well, giving him the title Sanda "King of Kings". Exciting and charismatic, Liu is almost certainly China's most recognized combat athlete. Liu has been dubbed the "Conqueror of Muay Thai" because he has beaten some top Muay Thai fighters in a series of "Sanda vs Muay Thai" challenges.[citation needed]In one such challenge held in Guangdong, China, Liu Hailong defeated Lukpoei Grabangkoei a Muay Thai champion from Thailand. He lifted Grabangkoei up and threw him out of the ring onto the concrete floor twice before splitting open the already battered face of Grabangkoei with a direct face punch hence resulting in a knockout. Liu has also fought and beaten Russian fighters such as Salihov Muslim in 2003. Another Russian fighter which is in this video who is seen walking up to the ring in blue shorts was the personal bodyguard of Putin. Liu is also known to have beaten Kyokushin Karatekas, two of which are in this video.
