Unfortunately, this video doesn’t seem to exist anymore. At any rate, I can’t find it. What I do remember though is that the guitar was not in standard tuning (pooossibly it was EADGCC, no capo). I also remember that Chris started playing the song, but the tuning was still wrong, so Chris tried tuning it himself, but couldn’t remember the correct tuning :D So he gave the guitar back to his tech, who then helped Chris out. Anyways. Fun video, interesting tuning, but it appears to be lost forever now. Oh well. In case anyone does actually find the vid after all, I’d be over the moon if you could share it with me :D As it is, I wasn’t too crazy about playing the song in EADGCC, since one, I wasn’t even sure if that is what Chris did, and secondly, it just works SO well in standard tuning that I just rolled with it, you know? :) ELECTRIC GUITAR Power Chords for intro / re-intro + pre-chorus Chords needed: G5: 3-5-(5)-x-x-x C5: 8-10-(10)-x-x-x D5: 10-12-(12)-x-x-x F5 oct: 13-15-(15)-x-x-x Bb5: 6-8-(8)-x-x-x C/E: 12-15-x-x-x-x Structure: G5, C5, D5, F5 oct, C (intro/re-intro) x3 Bb5, F5 oct, C/E Bb5, F5 oct, C5 (pre-chorus) Lead Guitar Chorus: “Chord 1”: x-x-x-12-11-15 “Chord 2”: x-x-x-10-10-13 (bar chord with index finger on x-x-x-10-10-10) “Chord 3”: x-x-x-12-13-15 Structure: Chord 1 (for two bars) Chord 2 (for one bar) Chord 3 (for one bar) Play four times for one full chorus. Play in alternating down- and up-strokes (quaver notes (if you count 140 bpm as 4/4, otherwise those would be semi-quavers, I guess…) ------------------- For the transition between Verse 1 and 2, play 15 on the high e-string (quaver notes with 1/16 delay, or do the delay-effect manually…pretty gnarly though - I used delay :D) ------------------- Verse 2 continues that high 15 on the e-string. I also improvised a little riff for half two, inspired by something I heard Jonny do in a few live performances: - - - - - - - 13 (e-string) 15-13-15 - - - (b-string) - - - - - - - - - - x8 ------------------- Solo Starts with a slide up, on the “3” count of previous bar. Start with x-x-x-5-5-x Slide up to: x-x-x-15-15-x (on G-minor) “Chord 2”: x-x-x-15-13-x (on Bb-major) “Chord 3”: x-x-x-14-13-x (on F-major) “Chord 4”: x-x-x-12-13-x (on C/E, or C-major, respectively) Live, Jonny adds a few notes between the “chords”. On the second round of the solo, after playing the second “chord”, Slide up to 18 on the b-string. Only slide up though, don’t play the note with your finger/pick. After playing the fourth “chord”, Slide up to 17 on the b-string. Again, only slide up, don’t play the note with your finger/pick. On round 3 and 4 of the solo (when the vocals come back in), The “in-between” notes change to: 17 on the e-string (after chord 2) 15 on the e-string (after chord 4) 13 on the e-string (after chord 2) 17 on the b-string (after chord 4), finish by sliding up to 18, don’t play the note. …That last part is improvised by me, Jonny doesn’t do that, I think. But the riff felt incomplete to me, so I added some flourishes to it lol.
