BLUEBIRD OVER THE KITZSTEINHORN IN ZELL AM SEE-KAPRUN – THREE AUSTRIANS ON THE PODIUM AT THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF THE X OVER RIDE FREERIDE WORLD TOUR CHALLENGER 2026 The third FWT Challenger competition of the 2026 season was held on Friday on the Langwied Face (2,260 m) at Kitzsteinhorn in Zell am See-Kaprun. The event marked a milestone for the tour, as the Langwied Face served as a competition venue for the first time in Freeride World Tour history. After the first two events in Silvretta Montafon and Nendaz, the Kitzsteinhorn marked a crucial phase of the season. The starting situation ahead of the contest was more exciting than ever: the rankings in several categories were extremely close – every run had the potential to reshuffle the cards in the fight for the coveted promotion spots. Accordingly, the intensity at the start was high. The organizing team made use of a stable weather window and selected Friday as the event day. A perfect sunny day with compact snow conditions on the competition face and a highly motivated rider crew ensured a contest at the highest level. The competition slope “Langwied” offered steep terrain with gradients of up to 40° and 310 vertical meters, allowing riders to choose many creative lines. Playful natural terrain features spread across the entire face enabled the athletes to demonstrate both technical precision and freestyle style. Ski Men Austrian rider Simon Zwischenbrugger claimed victory once again and strengthened his lead in this year’s Challenger overall standings. He combined speed and technical precision to secure first place in the Ski Men category with an impressive score of 95.67 points. After starting the season in Montafon as an event wildcard, Zwischenbrugger once again proved that he deserves his place in the field – delivering a performance clearly worthy of the top spot. With this result, he extends his lead in the overall ranking and, after three of six Challengers, is already dreaming of promotion to the Freeride World Tour. Noah Peizerat (FRA) finished second with 93.00 points. Immediately after leaving the start gate, he landed a confident backflip, making an early statement. Building on that momentum, he showcased his freestyle skills across multiple features and earned a well-deserved podium finish. Valentin Rainer (AUT) secured third place in his first Challenger appearance of the season with 92.00 points. Delivering a calm and technically clean run, he impressed with his performance: in addition to his signature 360s, he also landed a clean backflip, securing his spot on the podium. Ski Women In the Ski Women category, Mia McNab (FRA) claimed victory with an outstanding performance. With the biggest jumps in her category, she clearly separated herself from the field and scored 88.67 points. Her energetic run earned her a second consecutive podium finish, after placing third in Nendaz. With style and confidence, she fully utilized the face’s potential, linking several natural terrain features. Ulla Gilot (AUT) followed in second place with 85.00 points, delivering a strong run characterized by control at high speed. Throughout her descent, she seamlessly connected multiple features, presenting a fluid and technically demanding line. Maria Castellví Bono (ESP) secured third place on the podium with 81.33 points. Her smart line choice led her onto a feature-rich ridge, where she combined multiple features and tricks to earn her place among the top three. Snowboard Women Tiphanie Perrotin (FRA) won with 85.33 points, celebrating her second consecutive victory and her third podium finish of the season. This result confirmed her consistency and dominance in the category. Lou Ruiz (FRA) chose a contrasting line, demonstrating courage and creativity, and finished second with 78.33 points. Briony Johnson (AUS) took third place with 70.00 points. With a fluid line, clean drops, and strong style, she showcased her freestyle background. Snowboard Men Kealan Venning (IRL) claimed victory in the Snowboard Men category with a confident and cleanly executed line. He landed a backflip and made the most of the playful natural features. With 92.00 points, he secured first place. Timm Schröder (GER) achieved his second consecutive podium after his victory in Nendaz. With strong technique, he linked several 360s and jumps to earn 90.00 points. Nicolas Huber (SUI) rounded out the podium as the final rider on the start list. A Venue with History With the 20th edition of the X OVER RIDE at the Kitzsteinhorn in Zell am See-Kaprun, the Freeride World Tour Challenger Series enters its second half. The diverse faces of the Kitzsteinhorn offer a rare combination of large cliff opportunities, playful features, and creative line options – the perfect conditions for progressive freeriding. Once again in 2026, the venue confirmed why it is so popular among riders: it enables spectacular runs while rewarding technical line choice.
