Derby Resignalling completed - Midland Main Line Upgrade

Monday 8 October 2018 marked the completion of the £200million Derby Resignalling project. Work undertaken since the 79 day partial closure of the station began on 22 July saw; platforms 1 to 5 enter back into passenger use, the track remodelling and signal installation around Derby completed, the reopening of the upgraded Spondon level crossing and the return of all train services. Derby Resignalling is the biggest rail investment in Derby for decades and has created a modern and improved track layout through the station area. It is also a key part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade – the largest upgrade of the line to take place since it opened in 1870, which supports better journeys between Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and London. The station has remained open throughout the works, albeit with limited services.
