A major clean-up is taking place at the abandoned Louis Lynch Secondary School to make way for its demolition, but some people who have been living there for the past five years say they will have nowhere to go. A memo from the Ministry of Housing and Lands, dated Monday, March 24, stated that “given the increasing public health and safety concerns, a decision has been taken to demolish the buildings comprising the former Louis Lynch Secondary School facility”. Among those living there is 61-year-old David Browne, who is originally from St George. He said they were not notified of the demolition, but was told it was the National Housing Corporation in charge of the process. The squatter said he gets by with help from the Welfare Department with foodstuff and clothing, does odd jobs and grows plants to sell. He said he was a trained barber but could not operate at the same level because of his medical situation.
