In the 75 years of Blue Angels history, the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron has never canceled an air show due to maintenance. Dedicated to keeping the team fully operational year round, today's team is made up of approximately 100 Sailors and Marines of which 45 travel with the Blue Angels to each show site. As a Blue Angel maintainer, the stakes are high - the pilots' lives are literally in their hands. This is why the selection process to join the team is incredibly comprehensive, with each volunteer applicant required to interview with members of each of the 15 squadron work centers. After being selected to the Blue Angels, maintainers will serve a three-year tour with the squadron and are expected to work beyond their specific area of expertise to contribute to the team's overall effectiveness of the Blue Angels.
