This video showcases Spring Pecan Orchard Management and the steps required to get a pecan orchard ready for the Spring growing season. We need to weed eat around the base of each pecan tree, spray round-up to kill the grass around the drip line of the trees, prune the trees and then pick up all of the branches. From there, we need to fertilize the trees with a generic fertilizer such as 12-12-12 or something similar. Next, we come back and repairing the hog damage and repairing the irrigation spray heads. The final step is spraying round-up along the lanes so that the trees are not competing against the grass for water and nutrients. The lanes also make it easier come harvest time to pick the pecans up off the bare ground vs. the tall grass. In a week or two, at bud break (leaves popping out), we will need to spray zinc and insecticide. We will continue to spray zinc almost weekly or bi-weekly until harvest time. Love this time of the year, Glory be to God! Thanks for watching!
