Guerra del Tiempo (2019) - Leo Brouwer Matadora | Isidora Vladic & Matt Kaplan Please enjoy this new recording from Matadora that will be featured on my upcoming album of solo & chamber music by Leo Brouwer. We’re excited to share this unique work by the Maestro because it is one of the only (if not the only) works he’s written for the combination of classical guitar and piano. The piece is beautifully written and inspired by the book Guerra del Tiempo (War of Time) by the Cuban author and musicologist Alejandro Carpentier and highlights the possibilities of what such an ensemble can sound like. Mtro. Brouwer uses extended techniques for both instruments and utilizes space in the composition in a way that lets both instruments speak in their own unique way. On the work noted by Ediciones Espiral Eterna: “Time is one of the most notable concerns and constants in Carpentier's work, as it is for Brouwer, who has similarly advocated breaking away from traditional patterns. In Guerra del Tiempo, formants and elements such as pentatonicism and repetition coexist, leading to a "minimal Monothematicism” (it displays an essential minimalism with a development recognizable as Brouwerian).” Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the music!
