Hello everyone! Today, I am here to show and demonstrate my 5.0 Octave Marimba Practice Pad that I had crafted within the past few months. Enjoy the video! Clip Used: "Khamsin" (2018) by Emmanuel Séjourné: • "Khamsin" (2018) by Emmanuel Séjourné --------------------------------------- UPDATE (Jan 3rd, 2026): Hey everyone, I understand a lot are interested in the build. Here is a direct link to download the PDF of all the measurements I recorded and a brief explanation of it all below. Thank you! https://drive.google.com/drive/folder... Explanation: Here are the measurements that I took from a 5.0 Octave Yamaha Marimba. I'll try to provide the best explanation I can about what the spreadsheet means all in one spot. The first two columns(BARS C2-C7 and LENGTH) should be self explanatory, however the WIDTH column might be confusing. I found that most bars had similar widths depending on the range, so for instance, C#/Db2 - E2 all had the same widths of 2" & 13/16ths, and F2 - F3 all had the same widths of 2" & 11/16ths, etc. For the 5th column, I gave an average space of 1/2" between each bar. In the same column where it says "White", that 93" & 5/16ths means it's roughly the maximum distance from the left edge of C2 to the right edge of C7 - same idea with the black keys, left edge C#/Db2 - right edge A#/Bb6 is roughly 88" 5/16ths. Where it says "LARGE" means I measured the bottom edge of C2 to the top edge of C#/Db2(these types of measurements helped me justify purchasing two 8' by 4' planks of wood so that everything could fit - though my C7 key was cut just a tad short, but it doesn't matter too much because I can still hit it and it's a key that doesn't get used often) For the 6th column, I found that the black keys hover 1 & 1/2" over the white keys height-wise, and I also took into account how each black key hangs out length-wise in the 7th column. Because the marimba is graduate, the bottom black keys hang out more than the top black keys(i.e. C#/Db2 & D#/Eb2 must hang 3" out, F#/Gb2 & G#/Ab2 must hang 2" & 9/16ths out, etc.) Once you have everything all put together, I recommend some door hinges to fold the pad in whatever way you feel is good. I only cut my pad in one spot for door hinges, which makes it hard to transport, so cutting more spots for door hinges could help with easier transportation if you want.
