Airway Management is one of the most important aspects of any emergency medical situation. In this video, I will walk you through the basics: how to assess an airway and then how to establish it. Airway management is the assessment, planning, and series of medical procedures required to maintain or restore an individual's ventilation, or breathing. By maintaining an open airway, air can flow from the nose and mouth into the lungs. Soft tissue airway obstruction in the unconscious patient can occur by several mechanisms. These include prolapse of the tongue into the posterior pharynx and loss of muscular tone in the soft palate.
