Today we're going up inside the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, starting from the security checkpoint and elevator at ground level and ending by watching someone jump off the side of the building (in a harness!) from over 800 feet above the city. We begin by heading through security and boarding the high speed elevator that takes us up to the 108th floor in under a minute. Once we step out onto the indoor observation deck, we take in panoramic views of the Las Vegas valley, starting with a look straight down to the ground where Atomic Golf and the surrounding roads are far below. We slowly circle the interior, pausing to look west toward the mountains, and we even notice a cracked glass panel along the way. From up here, we can spot everything from the Wynn and Westgate golf courses to the Sphere and Fremont Street. We take note, too, of a metal washing rig used to clean the Strat's tower windows from the outside! After circling the indoor area, we climb the stairs up to the next floor and to the outdoor observation deck. We first encounter some locked doors, but we're soon out in the hot summer sun and taking a look at the thrill rides that are either permanently closed/broken (like Insanity) or just closed for the day like X-Scream and Big Shot (which shoots riders up on the top spindle of the tower). SkyJump, the ride where you can jump off the side of the Strat tower in a harness, is open, and we catch a woman jumping off the edge right in front of us.
