Philip Dean’s legacy can be seen in the designs of the buildings he created, from distinctive commercial buildings to stylish homes. In downtown Wausau, he is credited with designing the Wausau Coke, Fuel & Gas (401 Fourth Street), The Pilot Building (324 Scott Street), and The Spencer Block (604-606 Third Street). Wausau’s East Hill Historic District, as well as other neighborhoods, are graced by many of his designs, including the homes of A.A Bock home (801 Fulton Street) and Margaret Scholfield (1301 Steuben Street). He used a variety of styles to create these statement homes, from Queen Anne to Neo-Classical/Beaux Arts, and everything in between. Explore the life of architect Philip Dean, his architectural career, and a closer look at some of the buildings he designed in Wausau, Madison, Kaukauna, and more. His work extended beyond blueprints to the influencing of city and state government issues and the direction of architectural design trends.
