Kane Williamson was unavailable for the shortest format and won't feature in the extended version of limited-overs cricket. Tim Seifert went all guns blazing, Finn Allen and Mark Chapman chipped in, while the stand-in captain, Michael Bracewell, did his bit, especially with the bat. Jacob Duffy was the consistent performer with the ball, picking up wickets for fun, while Kyle Jamieson, William O'Rourke, Ish Sodhi and Jimmy Neesham stepped up when required. Speaking of the ODI squad, New Zealand will be without Tom Latham, who was initially appointed as the skipper for the series. The wicketkeeper batter has been ruled out of the series due to a fractured right hand, meaning that Mitchell Hay continues to don the gloves. Latham was hit on his right hand during the nets earlier in the week. In Latham's absence, the New Zealand team management has named Bracewell as the captain. Left-handed batter Henry Nicholls has been added to the squad. Nicholls was dealing with his calf-strain since November but came back with a bang, amassing five 50-plus scores in his six innings. Apart from the left-handed keeper-batter, the Kiwis will miss the services of pacers Matt Henry (right shoulder injury) and Kyle Jamieson (workload management). The hosts have the experience of Will Young, Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell in the batting department. Young will feature only in the series opener and miss the rest of the series to be with his wife as they await the birth of their first child. Rhys Mariu will come in as a cover for the Central Stags' cricketer. Duffy will lead the pace bowling front, with Ben Sears, O'Rourke and Nathan Smith completing the four-man attack. Bracewell will lead the spin-bowling department, with leg-spinner Adithya Ashok returning to the ODI side for the first time since December 2023. Wellington's Muhammad Abbas and Nick Kelly have received their maiden call-ups to the BlackCaps' squad. Kelly has scored 1,307 runs across all three formats during the 2024-25 season. The Firebirds' skipper is expected to make his debut and open with Young. Abbas had an excellent Ford Trophy campaign, scoring 340 runs with an average of 42.50. No matter how inexperienced the New Zealand team is at home, it is always a threat to any touring party. Pakistan will have a stronger set-up, featuring in the ODIs, and it will be a neck-to-neck battle to say the least between the two white-ball sides. Who will take the first bout?
