The SUNRISE project was a large partnership collaboration between multiple organisations and hosted by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It included major river habitat improvement works on the River Trent on the Staffordshire University Campus: https://www.wildtrout.org/content/riv... Between 2014 and 2021, an engineered, artificially-straightened channel was returned to a meandering trout stream with features that previously existed at that site in the 1800s and earlier. Riffles, glides, pools, meanders and backwaters all helped to reintroduce a wide range of ecological and geomorphological processes back into a previously degraded river. The video revisits what was previously a raw, newly created channel to examine the progress of re-colonisation two years after the machines left site.
