Angela Jones, CEO/President of Legal Document Assistants, joins Better Business Bureau to explain the differences and similarities between Paralegals, Legal Document Assistants, and Attorneys. 1. Paralegal Obtains a certificate or degree from a paralegal school Prepares legal documents under direct supervision of an attorney 2. Legal Document Assistant Is a paralegal that is also registered and bonded with the county. They have to graduate from an accredited paralegal program. They can prepare legal documents without attorney supervision They are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice or represent you in court. 3. Attorney Has passed the bar exam Can provide legal advice, answer legal questions, and can represent you in court. Can assist you with document preparation, but typically at a higher rate than a LDA. Check out CALDA.org if you need an LDA.
