One of the more unique railroads in the United States, is the Montana Rail Link. Classified as a "class II (2)" railroad, the MRL provides a vital passage through the Rocky Mountains in Central/Western Montana. While a majority of the trains running on MRL trackage are BNSF run through power, there are a handful of MRL powered and crewed trains. From Missoula, there are two main MRL trains based out of there. The "ML" (Missoula-Laurel, MT) manifest train, and the Gas Local which runs to/from Thompson Falls. The Gas Local provides twice daily service to service a gap in a gasoline line between Missoula and Thompson Falls, and runs in the morning (as the day gas), and in the evening (as the night gas). In this video, the focus is mostly on the gas trains as they make their way to and from Missoula on both the MRL 4th Sub and the MRL 10th Sub. All locations and lines described in the video.
