RAILWAY ROUND UP | Steam & diesel RAILTOURS around Bristol, Bath & Westbury + 35028 at SALISBURY!

We begin on Monday 9th December, where Bath Christmas Market continued to pull the crowds and the railtours with 34046 ‘Braunton’ working Mondays Saphos Trains 1Z46 Three Bridges - Bath Spa with 47810/ D1924 ‘Crewe Diesel Depot’ bringing up the rear. We see the rake arriving at Bristol Temple Meads on the 5Z46 before the 47 drags the consist back out for turning and servicing at Bristol East. Later on the same day over at Bath Spa, we witness a rare daylight ECS move for the GWR sleeper stock, with 57602 ‘Restormel Castle’ doing the honours leading the late running 5Z50 Laira T.& R.S.M.D. - Reading Traincare Depot. Fast forward to Saturday 14th December which saw another couple of railtours on the Avon area. We begin with WCRC Class 57s 57601 ‘Windsor Castle’ + 57315 top and tailed on the 1Z25 Northern Belle Bristol Temple Meads - Oxford Luncheon, before heading across to Westbury, initially looking around the freight yard, before WCRC 47848 arrives and departs with the 1Z86 Railway Touring Company ‘Bath & Bristol Christmas Express’. This railtour had been steam hauled from Three Bridges as far as Sailsbury, where 35028 ‘Clan Line’ was removed for servicing, while the 47 continued to Bath and Bristol. Following the 47 leaving Westbury, we head up to Sailsbury to observe ‘Clan Line’ at rest in the bay platform, being prepared by the MNLPS crew for its return run, rebuilding the fire and raising steam ahead of the locomotive rejoining the tour. I also took the opportunity to have a look in Sailsbury Model Centre during ‘Clan Line’s’ layover, a fantastic and well stocked model shop, in the running for Hornby hobby shop of the year! We finish with evening shots showing ‘Clan Line’ joining the rear of the tour at Salisbury, ready to be dragged back to restart the return run to Three Bridges.
