At least 197 men who died in France on 1st July 1916 are commemorated on family memorials in graveyards in Ulster. Fourteen men who died in the early days of the Battle of Albert are commemorated in Dundonald Cemetery and one man who died of wounds received on 1st July 1916 is buried in the cemetery. The July 1916 fatalities commemorated in Dundonald Cemetery include two sets of brothers, one recipient of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, and two recipients of the Military Medal. The youngest was 18 years old and the oldest was 30 years old, and two were married men.
