Hello friends! Welcome back to the channel! Boy do I have a thought provoker for you this week! We all know that micro poetry, commonly referred to as instapoetry has all but taken over the online literature world now! And there’s been so much talk about it, and critique that it got me thinking, is all this BAD poetry damaging our craft? Let’s take a look! _______________________ ADAM'S TIP JAR: https://www.paypal.com/biz/fund?id=8T... _______________________ MY OTHER VIDEOS: HOW TO WRITE REVERSE POEMS: • How To Write Poetry | Reverse Poems 6 BEGINNER POETRY MISTAKES: • 6 Beginner Poetry Mistakes METAPHORS AND SIMILES: • How To Write Poetry: Metaphors and Similes MY POEM - SCARLETTE: • Love Poem: Scarlette (She Came To Me As Wa... _______________________ MY SIGNED BOOKS AND OTHER COOL GOODIES https://www.adamgary.co.uk/shop _______________________ MERCH https://teespring.com/stores/adamgary _______________________ 'FREE BECOME A WORKING POET' GUIDE: https://www.adamgary.co.uk/become-a-p... _______________________ BAD poetry is everywhere and right now, at the forefront of discussion when it comes to popular poetry, and poets. Everyone is talking about Gabbie Hanna, Trisha Paytas, Rupi Kaur, Atticus etc, but is instapoetry as BAD as everyone says? Is it ruining our craft? Timestamps: 00:00 - Intro 3:00 - CONS 09:07 - PROS 14:47 - Final thoughts As poets it is important for us to read widely so that we can make informed decisions on various matters within our community and within our own writing. By doing that, you have no doubt found the world of instapoetry or micropoetry, or what most automatically label as BAD poetry. And, though there are reasons for that to be justified a lot of the time, it’s not always the right thing to do putting things into a single basket. Luckily, I’ve around the block a few times, in fact to put it more aptly, I’ve been around multiple blocks, multiple times. Which means I can take an objective look into this world of BAD poetry and reflect on it. But is it damaging our craft, and reputations as a collective? Let’s discuss. So as I mentioned, I have been around the block with both perspectives on this. For channel veterans you may require I started out his channel defending instapoetry and micropoems, but over the near 2 years of doing this channel I have aged (And don’t I show it) as well as matured in tastes. So am I abandoning instapoetry? Not at all! I still wholeheartedly feel there is a place for micropoetry or “pop” poetry when its done right, but sadly, it is all do often done wrong! Let’s make a pros and cons list of this famous form and then weigh everything up to make an informed final verdict. Cons: Reputations within the profession Lazy culture breeding Dilution of the craft Pros Bringing about a new era for poetry Introducing a new wave of poets Making poetry cool / popular again More lives are being saved So here’s the big question, is BAD instapoetry ruining our craft? Well, when compiling my list I could only think of 3 cons compared to 4 pros when wanting to make a list of 5 each. So judging by that, and of course from my perspective. No, it is not as a whole ruining our craft. For many, instapoetry serves as an inroad to our wonderful world and people will soon start picking up books from more traditionalists, so for that, we should be grateful. It is opening the up for us and we must stand ready quill, typewriter, laptop or pen and paper at the ready! Yes, of course there are serious issues that come from the simple statements being branded as profound poetry, but I feel instead of condemning it so ruthlessly as I see many do, we should inspire instead by saying, hey… I don’t like your work because it is lazy, but why not try this instead. And I include myself in that too, I can do better! To finish up and on that note, this is by no means a discouragement of any subscribers who write instapoetry. I’m still backing you all the way! Just, you know, strive to be as impactful, beautiful as you can be, by crafting your poems!
