Frontiers, the moniker for this podcast, doesn't denote a certain territory on a map. Even though its concerns are of and about the border regions where it is produced, and where geopolitics and the business of conflicts and wars shape lives that are our own, the podcast is about the "frontiers of ideas." It is meant to expand and deepen our understanding of—and hopefully shape and direct our collective response to—the myriad complex and challenging issues that keep our lives on hold. By bringing critical insights weaned from academic texts and historical hindsight, it is an effort to clear the air, to keep the spotlight on the forces at play and the freedoms at stake—beyond the distracting noise and obfuscation of shallow politics and the confusion it engenders. In that sense, it is an exercise in meaning-making and memory-keeping. We hope to tease out the sense, the method behind the madness of Pakistani politics; to document, memorialize, and hopefully preserve for progeny the contemporary and historical omissions and commissions that have come to define this region and its people. In that sense, it is as much about the place—the contested geographies, geopolitics, and histories of the border regions and the precariousness of life here—as it is about the widescreen exploration—with an eye on the rearview mirror—and interrogation of ideas, as suggested by the title Frontiers. . .
