Stream now on ABC iview: https://ab.co/ABWF ___________________________________________ When an opportunity to perform in the brand-new musical Hair came up, Marcia jumped at it. There was just one catch - the production was in Australia. I knew nothing about Australia! Yeah? Nothing! When you're 16, you're bulletproof. You better be, you know? So, I was just totally bulletproof. And I knew I'd gotten a good gig because I had great money... Yeah. You know, and... I've always been taught to be responsible, so, I had a job, and when you have a job, you have to turn up and present yourself and perform for that job, and I did. It was great. It was fantastic. Hair opened in June 1969 amid protests and bomb threats because it questioned the establishment with its anti-Vietnam themes and full-frontal nudity. I remember saying, "Oh, no, I won't do the nude scene." They said, "OK, you don't have to do the nude scene." And then as soon as I got on stage, I went, "Yeah, I think I'll do the nude scene." Because the camaraderie was so great. But, you know, if you blinked, you missed it. Yeah. And it was really discreet, discreet lighting. I think it was in very good taste. That would've been seen as so progressive and dangerous and... Yeah! (GASPS) It was one of those moments. Yeah! Yeah. I think it was probably considered the most... Risque. Risque show on Earth. (LAUGHS) As if. But yeah. Then, you know, it's all relative.
