I found my first die cash Lincoln Cent and took a couple pics of it then super-imposed the obverse onto to reverse to demonstrate how the die clash error occurs. Coins begin as a blank disk and they are smashed between an "anvil" Die and "hammer" Die. Sometimes when the mint is operating, there is no Blank in the Die. When this happens, The Hammer and Anvil can hit each other causing one or both to leave an imprint on the other. This "imprint" will almost always only be left on the deepest, flat areas because that happens to be the "highest" part of the Die. For example, Lincolns head and temple area is well protected on the Die because that is the deepest part of the Die. But the flat area below the Memorial is the highest and most exposed area on the Die. Note: Die Clash errors never show up as "imprints" on the coin, Rather, the coin will have Raised areas as if there is extra metal where the error occurs because of the dent left in the Die. Also, You will notice that in the video one side of the coin is backwards. This is because you see the coin as if you are looking directly through the coin, NOT rotating the coin around to view the other side.
