AWESOME People IG Live with Mary Apick

I made a public pledge to do 31 interviews in 31 days of December with some of the most AWESOME Persian entrepreneurs, artists and creatives I know. This was my 24th one and it was with Mary Apick from Los Angeles, California. Mary is a daughter of the legendary Apick Youseffian who was a trailblazer in her own right. Mary is a Writer, Producer, Director, Composer and an actor who began her career as a child star in Iran. Going on to star in countless television shows, feature films and plays, Mary became one of the most popular stars in Iran. She was the first actress in the Iranian Motion Picture history to win the Moscow International Film Festival Best Actress Award for her performance in Dead End, (BonBast) 1977. Theater has always been Mary’s greatest passion. In 2005, she wrote, directed and produced the politically charged Critic's Choice play “Beneath The Veil” which was presented in many prestigious venues such as Lincoln and Kennedy Center and Geffen playhouse. Throughout her adult life, Mary has remained fiercely committed to improving the lives of women and children, especially in the Middle East. Her most recent work, “The Cat” is a short animation film that is currently in consideration for an Oscar Nomination. It is the unfortunate story of our homeland and how Iran, courtesy of the dark politics of the world, entered the worst twilight of injustice and oppression for the past 42 years. The situation specifically affected the women and children and this short film is a portrayal of those circumstances, which as we all know, still continues this day.
