The process involves using a 3.5 cm piece of zinc oxide tape and a ribbon of tape cut in half. Starting with the larger piece, wrap it around the foot without applying too much tension to avoid restricting blood flow. Next, ask the patient to spread their toes and place the middle of the ribbon tape on the big toe. Secure the tape by wrapping it around the foot and overlapping it, ensuring it is properly pressed down. Be cautious not to restrict blood flow to the big toe.
