A Race Against Time A paleontologist recruits you for a secret mission to bring a 3.5-ton Iguanadon back to the present. Dinosaur is a simulator dark ride at the American theme park Disney's Animal Kingdom and is located in the themed area DinoLand USA. The dark ride opened on April 22, 1998 under the name Countdown to Extinction. This was later changed to Dinosaur as a reference to the Disney animated film Dinosaur . The queue resembles a museum . Through various corridors and rooms where, among other things, a dinosaur skeleton is displayed, one arrives at the room where the pre-show is presented. In the pre-show, it is explained that the visitors will travel through time to get to know dinosaurs. The transport system of the attraction consists of vehicles that look like safari jeeps with twelve seats. The ride starts and ends in a small space that acts as the time machine. There is red neon lighting and mist effects. During the ride, the vehicle drives through a jungle-like environment. Animatronics of dinosaurs are placed around and in the vegetation, eleven in total. A number of dinosaurs attack the vehicle from above or from the side. During the ride, the conversation between the computer and the driver can be heard, although he is not visibly present. Towards the end of the ride, the computer tells us that a meteorite impact will take place in 60 seconds. Just before the meteor hits, the vehicle is teleported back to the present.
