Patient accused of assaulting Butler Hospital staff members, police officer

Providence police said Friday that a patient at Butler Hospital assaulted staff members and injured a police officer. Police said they were called to Butler at about 8 p.m. for a report of a patient assaulting hospital staff. They said the patient became combative and charged at an officer, who fell and struck his head on the ground. Police said the officer had a head injury and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
