Namibia's state-owned telecoms company, Telecom Namibia, has fallen victim to a devastating ransomware attack, resulting in the leak of sensitive customer data, including information about top government officials. According to the reports, the hackers, known as Hunters International, were able to infiltrate Telecom Namibia's systems and steal nearly 500,000 pieces of information, including personal and financial data belonging to government ministries, senior officials, and other company clients. The stolen data has since been released on the dark web, exposing the sensitive information of thousands of individuals. The attack has been met with a swift and serious response from Namibia's leadership. Outgoing President Nangolo Mbumba has condemned the cyberattack, calling it a matter of national security that must be addressed with the "urgency it deserves." Telecom Namibia's Chief Executive, Stanley Shanapinda, has provided further details on the incident. He revealed that the company initially believed that no sensitive information had been compromised, but later discovered that customer records, including personal identification details, addresses, and banking information, had been leaked and shared on social media platforms. The telecoms firm has stated that it refuses to negotiate with the hackers or pay the demanded ransom. Shanapinda has made it clear that Telecom Namibia will not "negotiate with cyber-terrorists," as the sums being requested are exorbitant and unaffordable. He has also warned that even if a ransom were paid, there would be no guarantee that the stolen data would not still be made public. #Namibia #Telecom #cyberattack #databreach #dataleak #news FIND US AT https://dailysecurityreview.com/ FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL Get updates or reach out to Get updates on our Social Media Profiles!
