Incredible up close footage taken by FPV drone of incandescent rockfall on Merapi Volcano, Indonesia. Incandescent rockfall on volcanoes like Merapi happens when gravity overcomes the strength of the lava dome or solidified lava flows near the summit. As the volcano erupts, it pushes molten rock (magma) to the surface. This magma can cool and solidify, forming a dome or flows. However, these structures are often unstable, especially during ongoing eruptions. Factors like pressure from rising magma, earthquakes, and gas explosions can weaken the lava dome or flows, causing sections to break off and tumble down the volcano's slopes.
