Al Day, legendary singer/songwriter, is also a true jazz fan who loves to sing standards. If you have heard Al perform his own material with that wonderfully distinctive voice, perhaps you can imagine what "Al does standards" might sound like. Al appeared at the Whiskey Lounge last year as part of a "jazz song cycle" performance created by gifted pianist and friend of the series, Bob Long. It was sort of a round robin approach with musicians taking turns selecting songs and performing them with a small ensemble. Al's featured numbers absolutely brought down the house – so honest, so soulful, so real. Well, this week we get an entire evening of Al's vocals, again with the fine piano work of Mr. Long ... and for the icing on the cake, we welcome for the first time to our stage the legendary guitarist, Henry Johnson, who has performed with Jack McDuff, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Williams and countless others.
