Unveiling the Steel Science-Based Target-Setting Guidance

Steel production is one of the most energy- and carbon-intensive industrial activities in the world. Given its influence in industries like infrastructure, construction, transportation and renewable energy, the steel sector is key to fostering the transformation to achieve net-zero. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) launched the first science-based framework to enable primary and secondary steel manufacturers to set near-and long-term science-based targets in line with 1.5°C, taking into account sector-specific barriers and opportunities. On September 19th 2023, the SBTi hosted a webinar, explaining the Steel Science-Based Target-Setting Guidance, and how businesses in this industry can set robust emissions reduction targets in line with climate science to accelerate their decarbonization efforts, and limit global warming to 1.5°C.
