According to the CDC, the prevalence of obesity in America in 2018 was 42%. This number continues to grow, despite public education. Interesting to know that one's education does play some role in reducing the risk of obesity. The more educated someone is the less likely they are to be obese. When obesity is mentioned, then Type 2 diabetes mellitus wears the crown, compared to Type 1 diabetes. There are other subtypes of diabetes, like gestational diabetes (a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy in women who don’t already have diabetes). In this video, Dr. Choe focusses on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; what they are/risk factors and basic treatment modalities. Life style modification is encouraged; -Exercise regularly, at least 3x/week for at least 30min each -Eat healthy as much as you can -Get routine check-up with your PCP -Manage stress appropriately -Quit smoking cigarettes -Watch your alcohol intake To add to that, Dr. Choe gives a brief overview of her life and how/why she went into Internal Medicine and decided to sub-specialize in Endocrinology. She gave her 3 pointers for young females aspiring to be in her shoes one day. Dr. Choe is a talented Cellist and performs 2 famous melodies 1. Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone 2. Swan by Saint-Saens Intro 0:00 Getting to know Dr. Choe 1:35 Why Endocrinology 2:45 Let's talk Diabetes 3:52 Inspire the next generation 7:02 Final words 7:46 Cello performance 8:05 End screen 12:29 Follow Dr. Choe on instagram @suhrim.choe_mdmbs / suhrim.choe_mdmbs CDC/Webmd Diabetes Links https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/d... https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/diabet... https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/prev... https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/g...
