"To improve the definition, I colorized the pictures taken approx. 100 years ago. They were photographed by Elstner Hilton, an American who lived in Japan between 1914 and 1918. Apparently he came to Japan to sell saw mills. All of his pictures are amazing, but especially it is surprising to see the models' natural smiles he captured. This is strange, when I see the people´s smile on these pictures, it makes me feel that they really existed. So, I colorized to improve the image quality in order that we can feel these people existed, their smiles are not filtered or touched. Aditionally, it was during the First World War when these pictures were taken between 1914 and 1918. It is almost same moment as the time setting of the popular Japanese anime ""Demon Slayers"". At that time, Japan was in the period of ""Taisho Roman"" and was prospering in the war boom. However, in 1923 Great Kantō earthquake struck Kanto region and the country moved to the era of war.
