Distraction often feels harmless. In today’s world, it can even feel normal, productive, or necessary. But Scripture warns us that divided attention carries a hidden cost. In this devotional, we examine how distraction slowly leads to drift and why even good activity can pull us away from what matters most. Drawing from Luke 10:38–42, Hebrews 2:1, and Psalm 46:10, this message explores the tension between busyness and presence, productivity and devotion, serving and abiding. Jesus does not rebuke Martha for serving. He addresses what sits beneath her activity. Competing priorities. Anxiety. A divided heart. The danger is not rebellion but drift. Drift happens quietly when we stop paying close attention. This devotional is especially for leaders, entrepreneurs, and driven people who live with full calendars and constant responsibility. It challenges the idea that being busy is a badge of honor and invites a slower, clearer, more attentive way of living and leading. You will be encouraged to evaluate where distraction has become normalized, where your attention is divided, and what you may need to step back from in order to see more clearly. Stillness is not inactivity. It is the posture that restores clarity, alignment, and peace. If you feel scattered, exhausted, or constantly pulled in many directions, this devotional is an invitation to return to the one thing that cannot be taken away. Key themes in this devotional: • Distraction and spiritual drift • Divided attention and anxiety • Stillness and clarity • Leadership and overcommitment • Paying attention to what matters • Abiding versus busyness __________________ Bible Verses: Luke 10:38–42 (ESV): Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her. Hebrews 2:1 (ESV): Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. Psalm 46:10 (ESV): Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” If this devotional encouraged you, consider liking, sharing, or subscribing for more faith based leadership and devotional content. __________________ To learn more or join a faith-driven community that strengthens both body and spirit, visit https://www.PaidFor.com.
