The land of sunshine and big diesels from manufacturers from all over the world including the UK. The first clip shows a noisy locomotive departing Tunes with a freight service to Lisbon. Unmistakaby French in appearance these locos are manufactured by SORFAME and this one No 1931 was introduced in 1981. Also built in France by SORFAME the next clip shows a 1967 built smaller diesel electric loco used for local services and can be seen departing Tunes with a evening service to Lagos. Next we see and here the unmistakable lines and sounds of an English Electric locomotive, known as the Portuguese class 20s, oh yes , they are awesome locos with an engine half the size of a class 50 and Napier turbochargers a sort of mini deltic class 50 class 20 hybrid. 1454 is seen departing Tunes heading East. The 4th clip shows one of the veteran big diesels of Portugal built in 1948 1510 is seen on the Algarve heading west with a freight service. Built in New York by ALCO they look and sound American they were refurbished in the 70s and given V12 engines i think. Finally oh yes it is a class 50. Well a cousin at least 10 of these magnificent beasts were introduced in 1969 and worked Rapido services from Lisbon to the Algarve. They are essentially a class 50 but slightly less powerful. But boy do they whistle, much like a class 40. Enjoy.
