Our goat packing trip into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, May 3 -13, 2018, starting from the Race Creek (Idaho) trail head. We took 7 of our 9 goats, as our 8 week old Oberhasli babies were still being bottle fed and needed to stay home. The bulk of our packing weight was carried by our two big, 10 year old Alpine brothers Bean and Bacon, and 5 year old Zeke - the naturally polled (no horns) Saanen/Nubian cross. Despite his smaller size he's a real workhorse. Our three 2 year olds were carrying packs for the first time and their bags were stuffed with clothes, sleeping bags, and our tent. We were careful that their loads didn't exceed 10 lbs total. Their names are Angus (black Alpine), Turbo (spiral horned Saanen/Nubian) and Boone (Alpine/Oberhasili). 10 month old Crockett (Oberhasili) brought up the rear and got plenty of trail experience for future pack trips.
