(Jan. 18) Haiti's former dictator has been lead out of his hotel by police. Earlier Tuesday senior police officials, some of them heavily armed, along with a judge met with Jean-Claude Duvalier and his attorneys. Better known as Baby Doc, the exiled leader returned to Haiti on Sunday. He led a brutal regime from 19-71 until he was forced out by a mass uprising in 19-86. It's not clear why he returned from France now but groups in Haiti are demanding he be arrested for human rights violations. His return comes as Haiti struggles to work through a dire political crisis following the problematic Nov. 28 first-round presidential election, as well as a cholera epidemic and a troubled recovery from last year's earthquake. None of the officials would comment on what was being discussed at the meeting in his posh hotel Tuesday. Dozens of Haitian National Police officers were posted inside and around the facility and a police vehicle for transporting prisoners was parked out front. A spokesman for the U-N high commissioner on human rights said it would easier to bring charges against him now that he's back in Haiti.
