This is the 4th revision of an ultralight tarp using common inexpensive materials such as polycryo (aka window shrink film). I just used this tarp during my 2020 11-day trip to the Wind River Range and the overnight on the BMCT, which is where I shot this video. I never made a video of Rev 3 (can be seen on my 2016 Winds trip), but Rev 2 is at • MYOG Ultralight Tarp An excellent guide to construction of such a tarp was already done by David Gardner on BPL so I didn't bother duplicating any of his fine work. That can be found at https://backpackinglight.com/forums/t... The main difference from his article is I still used the nylon sail repair tape he did previously because it is lighter and stronger, but did a couple other things to account for its not adhering as well. Since his was A-frame only, he used cord to reinforce the ridgeline while mine is half-mid only and just use the nylon tape along the lines of greatest force. This tarp should be fine in anything but extreme winds (40+). As long as you know its limitations and are prepared to handle a failure should it occur, you could use it about anywhere.
