Grandoreiro: a global trojan with grandiose goals | Fabio Assolini

In the dynamic realm of cyber threats, the emergence of the Grandoreiro Banking Trojan marks a significant escalation in sophisticated financial cybercrime. Crafted meticulously, this sophisticated malware, originating from Brazil and active since at least 2016, has posed a significant threat to financial institutions worldwide. With its ability to infiltrate systems through spear-phishing emails and subsequently gain control over victims' bank accounts, Grandoreiro has been responsible for fraudulent activities amounting to an estimated 3.5 million euros, according to conservative estimates. Grandoreiro is “grande” — its goals are to target 1,300 financial institutions in 45 countries, located on all continents in the world. It operates with remarkable persistence. Employing techniques like social engineering, modular codebase, DGA and encrypted communication channels, it easily circumvents conventional security measures. In this presentation, we will be documenting the latest Grandoreiro campaign and details about the law enforcement operation that arrested members of the group.
