After stopping at an oceanside viewpoint in Tautira, Mom and I continue driving westbound on the north coast road of Tahiti Iti, “Small Tahiti,” the eastern section of Tahiti Island. There was a small ancient Polynesian religious site called a “marae” at the viewpoint along with a nice view of some of the mountainous peaks of the interior. We pass through a one-lane section of road that is controlled by a portable traffic signal 16 km (10 miles) from the main Tahiti Iti town of Taravao (close to where we’re staying). We pull onto a side road to walk to view 2 waterfalls.
