A final fling for a Stanier stalwart, as 45596 "Bahamas" bows out of steam on the expiry of its current boiler ticket. 45596, owned by the Bahamas Locomotive Society and based on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, returned to steam following an overhaul in late 2018 at Tyseley; a full mainline return following in early 2019. The 'Jubilee' has been a regular mainline performer during this recent stint of service, including frequent work across the south coast; leading excursions to various seaside destinations including Weymouth, and the Solent. "Bahamas" would work its final railtour during this ticket in September 2025, when it double-headed 'The Mayflower' to Plymouth with 7029 "Clun Castle". The full withdrawal of the locomotive marks the conclusion of a very successful stint of service, for which the BLS, KWVR, and West Coast Railways deserve their respective praises. The 'Bahamas Farewell Weekend' promised a generous timetable, with plenty of opportunity to catch the titled locomotive in action. 45596 would be operating alongside Stanier Mogul Class 5 - 13268, visiting from the Severn Valley Railway, with the pair being complimented by resident 5MT - 73156 to complete a trio of steam. Exceptionally atmospheric conditions would grace the GCR, as fog settled in around the railway for the majority of the day, creating some timeless scenes of years gone by. 45596 would receive an outlined smokebox numberplate for its final day, with a handful of titled headboards adorning the locomotive on its services.
