A little humor at the end of this video. This rag was composed in 1910 by George Botsford, and turned into a song with lyrics by Irving Berlin a short time later. Like relatively recent songs "Macarena" and "Gangnam Style", The Grizzly Bear spawned a popular dance. In fact, it sparked a trend of animal-themed dances including The Turkey Trot and the Fox Trot, which ultimately stood the test of time. This performance is from a new G roll available at http://www.johnnysmusicrolls.com/ . The roll contains 10 tunes arranged by Art Reblitz, all related to the Barbary Coast / San Francisco Bay Area, in honor of the July 2013 AMICA convention held there. The roll is Jazzola label G-0026. This Seeburg G Orchestrion is part of the collection of John Mottoros. You can hear more of this instrument and other vintage automatic instruments from his collection on this CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mottoros In the clips at the end, the pianist is Squeek Steele -- http://www.goodoldsongs.com -- but I don't know the name of the singer. I also don't remember the name of the historic dance specialists who demonstrated The Grizzly Bear. That actually was recorded back in 2009 -- a video I never posted -- so memory is fading.
