This is a 2003 Nordiska Piano, a baby grand piano. It measures 4 foot 9 inches from the very front to the very back and. I noticed when I was playing this earlier that it has the perfect thing for people like me; a slow fall board, so it doesn't slam down and why it's perfect for me is because I have kids and they love slamming each other's fingers in our piano! Oh Kids! So that's really cool but also what we love about Nordisk is is that they are made by Dongbei so if you've watched any of our other videos you'll know that we really as technicians like Dongbei, as they made pianos like Nordiska, Hallet Davis, and many other brands, they are all basically Dongbei made pianos, and they stencil a different name on the front. What technicians like about Dongbei is their scale design, so a big part of designing pianos is deciding when your termination points are. So when the string starts and when it ends and when a piano is fully strung, there can be as much as two tons of pressure on the plate. So it really matters where you how far out you put these strings and how much space you have on the back end, just mainly for structural strength of the plate. Dongbei has done a really really good job at designing this scale designed to be really clean and pure. So as technicians we love that right because we're tuning the piano by ear a lot of times. Telling ourselves that this is going to be a little sharper, or this is going to be a little flat, and we're doing a kind of math in our head as we stretch the octaves or achieve equal temperament with tuning.
