Although the general storyline is that Xuanwu and Zhenwu are the same, when looking at the appearance of the supposed transformation by imperial decree, it looks very different. the impotance of both gods is not to be understated. there is no undermining of the value of these gods, but a validation by recognizing the correct telling of the history and the content of the story asa result of errors that crept into the populism about the Zhenwu Myth. I have been studying the Zhenwu-Xuanwu contellation for over 20 years and heard and red different versions.
