The current Crimean Bridge is not the first, indeed it could be argued that it is not the second. Plans for a Crimean Bridge go as far back at the beginning of the twentieth century to the times of Tsar Nicholas II. Stalin looked at building a bridge in the 1930s but the first spanning of the Straights of Kerch was by the German army who opened a cableway in July 1943. This was capable of delivering 1,000 tons of supplies to the Taman peninsula per day according to Albert Speer. Also according to the armaments minister, a concrete bridge was also planned. Soviet intelligence followed the progress of the bridge via aerial reconnaissance and after Crimea was recaptured started its own bridge. This bridge was completed in 1944 after huge resources had been put into it. This is a trailer for a long video which will be published very soon.
