After days of mounting public pressure, nationwide protests, and intense criticism, the Nigerian Senate finally reconvened on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, for an emergency plenary session and announced they had amended Section 60 of the Electoral Act to allow electronic transmission of election results. Headlines quickly declared victory and social media erupted with celebration. But here is what many people are not being told. Yes, the Senate approved electronic transmission, but buried in the fine print is a clause that has the potential to completely undermine the entire system. Senate President Godswill Akpabio clarified that if electronic transmission fails as a result of communication failure, the manually signed and stamped Form EC8A shall be the primary source of collation and declaration of results. This seemingly innocent provision is actually a massive loophole that could be exploited to manipulate elections. The entire point of demanding mandatory real-time electronic transmission was to close the door on result tampering during collation. By creating a provision that allows manual results to override electronic transmission whenever there is a claim of communication failure, the Senate has effectively given INEC and anyone with ulterior motives a ready-made excuse to bypass the electronic system entirely. Sources revealed that three ranking Southern senators allegedly approached Akpabio and urged him to retain the existing law instead of making real-time transmission mandatory. #SenateElectoralAct #ElectronicTransmission #NigeriaElections #inec #GodswillAkpabio #ElectoralReform #NigerianSenate #2027Elections #akpabio Senate electronic transmission 2026, Electoral Act amendment Nigeria, manual results override IREV, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, electronic transmission loophole, Nigeria election rigging 2027, INEC results manipulation, Form EC8A manual collation, Peter Obi electoral protest, Aisha Yesufu National Assembly protest, Nigerian electoral reform, mandatory electronic transmission, communication failure excuse, election collation tampering Nigeria, Senate emergency plenary February 2026, PDP condemns electoral act, civil society electoral reform, Nigerian Bar Association election, real-time transmission Nigeria, 2027 election integrity Nigeria, Nigeria governance news, Nigerian lawmakers news, political news analysis, Nigeria corruption news, Nigeria economic policy, Nigerian political crises
