September 27th, 2025, marked the date that the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum ran another signature "Summerville Steam Special" on the old Central of Georgia line to Summerville, Georgia. For the museum's "Founders Day" this year, the Southern #4501 was dressed up to masquerade as a Central of Georgia MacArthur numbered #699. It was anticipated that the #699 would be no more following Founders Day; however, that was not the case. It was announced a few days before the running of the September 27th Summerville excursion that the #4501 would indeed make the trip to Georgia in Central of Georgia colors. I was anticipating lots of folks to be out for this run, but surprisingly not; many railfans were to be found shooting Norfolk & Western "J" Class #611 out in Virginia this weekend. Light crowds were to be found trackside (except the shot at the Rock Spring schoolhouse) along what is now the Chattooga & Chickamauga Railway. The train crew put on a great show for the railfans that were in attendance for the event, using the retrofitted Central of Georgia 5 Chime whistle abundantly. This whistle was deafening and required extensive audio post-processing to sound natural. ___________________________________________________________________________ From the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum: In October of 1911, the proud men of the Baldwin Locomotive Works turned out a locomotive with builder's number 37085. This 2-8-2 locomotive, also known as a Mikado, was sold to the Southern Railway as the first of 485 locomotives of varying designs. Leading a rather unremarkable career, this locomotive operated for the Southern in East Tennessee, Central Kentucky, and later in Southern Indiana. ___________________________________________________________________________ Filmed on September 27th, 2025.
