Due to dissatisfaction with the passenger services provided by the London Chatham & Dover Railway, the people of Bromley would desire a consistent rail service. This desire led to the formation of the Bromley Direct Railway in 1874. The route would open in 1878, and just over a year later, the BDR would be taken over by the Southeastern Railway. The line from Grove Park to Bromley North, with one intermediate station at Sundridge Park, and is 1 mile and 61 chains (2.6 kilometres) in length. The route would be electrified in 1925, with a full timetable using EMUs being introduced in early 1926. The introduction of electric services would see an increase in passenger numbers, and in 1954, Bromley North’s platforms would be extended to 710 (216 meters). As of 2024, the line sees 4 trains per hour during off-peak hours and 5 to 6 trains per hour during peak hours.
